CEF Scholarships
The scholarships listed here are funded, managed, and offered by the Chelsea Education Foundation (CEF) and are available to current Chelsea High School Seniors*. Each scholarship listed here each requires an essay that addresses a specific question or topic, as detailed in the application criteria below.
Note that essays should be individualized for each scholarship and should not be reused for separate applications.
Awards granted by the CEF must be used for the upcoming academic year and cannot be deferred.

To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Be planning on pursuing a post-secondary degree (priority will be given to those considering a career in aviation).

Chelsea Education Foundation A.C.E. Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Plan on pursuing a degree in Accounting, Computer Science or Engineering at the post-secondary level

Chelsea Education Foundation Academic Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Be planning on pursuing a degree or skilled trade at the post-secondary level.
- Demonstrate high academic achievement with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (CEF will obtain a transcript from CHS).

- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.

Chelsea Education Foundation Skilled Trades Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year OR currently enrolled in a trade certification or undergraduate program.
- Plan to enroll or are enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year college or
vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
- Major in trade construction, industrial, motor/power sector, mechanics, or technology degree/certificate.
- Demonstrate a commitment to learning a trade and completing certification coursework.
- Provide a letter of recommendation.
Essay prompt:
- Provide a visual portfolio and/or a written description of work you have accomplished pursuing your career interest and a statement as to why you are committed to your selected field.
Chelsea Family Dentistry Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Plan on pursuing a degree in the healthcare field.
- Demonstrate high academic achievement with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (CEF will obtain a transcript from CHS).
Essay prompt:
- Describe the life experiences which have influenced your character development goals.
Chelsea Rod and Gun Club Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Have completed an Outdoor Recreation Safety course (e.g., Hunter Safety, Boater Safety).
- Have an interest in but not limited to hunting, fishing, conservation, the shooting sports, or other outdoor related activities.
- Plan to attend a school of higher education.
- Plan to major in a Science, Conservation, Law Enforcement, or Teaching, or Environmental program.
Essay prompt:
- Please list the Outdoor Recreation Safety Course(s) you have completed. What area of study do you plan to pursue? Tell us about your Out of Doors experiences and interests.
Continuing Education C.E.F. Scholarship for Non-Traditional or Returning Students
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Have graduated high school prior to the current academic year.
- Reside in the Chelsea School District.
- Pursue a degree or skilled training at the post-high school level after an interruption of at least one year.
- Provide a list of volunteer and employment activities.
Essay prompt:
- Provide a statement of your goals regarding continuing education and employment, including what you have been doing since high school and why you are resuming your education.
Note: Funds from this scholarship can be used for continuing education seminars but are not to be used for travel expenses or lodging.
Doris Schumacher/A. Henry Schumacher Memorial Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Have graduated from Chelsea School District and be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university.
- Have completed at least one year of schooling at an accredited college or university.
- Provide current academic transcript.
Essay prompt:

Note: Preference will be given to those students who may not be able to complete college without financial assistance.
Female in Finance Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a current Chelsea High School graduate in the current academic year or a Chelsea High School graduate who is currently enrolled at an accredited college or university.
- Be a person who self-identifies as female and intends to pursue a Bachelors or Masters Degree in a financial field.
- Provide a current academic transcript (CEF to obtain if currently a Chelsea High School senior)

Jillian Lea Drow Memorial Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Be planning on pursuing a degree or skilled trade at the post-secondary level.
Essay prompt:
- Describe an act of kindness, for which you have witnessed or you have initiated, that has affected your character development and your future goals.
Joel Gentz Memorial Leadership and Service Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a Senior at Chelsea High School, or have graduated from Chelsea School District and be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university (current college students will be considered first, but Seniors are encouraged to apply).
- Be planning on pursuing a degree or skilled trade at the post-secondary level.
- Provide a current academic transcript (CEF to obtain if currently a Chelsea High School senior), a high grade point average is not required.
Essay prompt:
- Write a brief description of your leadership qualities and how they were used to complete a service project in the past year.
- Include one letter of recommendation written within the last six months; this letter should be a character reference (coach, mentor, employer, clergy, teacher, etc.) speaking to the applicant’s leadership qualities and noting how the service project positively impacted others.
Joseph Piasecki Memorial Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Be planning on pursuing a degree or skilled trade at the post-secondary level.
Essay prompt:
- Describe the life experiences which have influenced your character development goals.
Judith Lynn Wagner Owens Teacher Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a resident of the Chelsea School District.
- Plan on pursuing a degree in Education.
- Provide a current academic transcript (CEF to obtain if currently a Chelsea High School senior).
Essay prompt:
- Describe yourself and the contributions you would like to make to society in Education.
Note: Students may apply for an Owens Teachers Scholarship up to four times, provided a new application is completed by the deadline each year.
Merkel Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Reside in the Chelsea School District.
- Pursue an Associates, Bachelors, or Masters degree in a health related field. Students who are pursuing a degree in nursing will be given preference.
- Provide a current academic transcript (CEF to obtain if currently a Chelsea High School senior).
Essay prompt:

Robert W. Wagner Engineering Scholarship
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a resident of the Chelsea School District.
- Be planning on pursuing a degree in Engineering.
- Provide a current academic transcript (CEF to obtain if currently a Chelsea High School senior).
Essay prompt:
- Describe yourself and the contributions you would like to make to society in Engineering.
Note: Students may apply for a Wagner Engineering Scholarship up to four times, provided a new application is completed by the deadline each year.
CSC Scholarships
The scholarships listed here are managed by the Chelsea Scholarship Committee and are available to current Chelsea High School Seniors. The Committee offers a wide variety of scholarships that cover a diverse range of post-secondary pathways. Read more about each scholarship below to see which one(s) best align with your plan.

- Awarded to student involved in music arts and demonstrating a history of excellence in academics and community service.

- Awarded to student involved in science and demonstrating a history of excellence in academics and community service.
- Chelsea Chamber of Commerce Music Scholarship
- Student must be attending a university or conservatory and pursuing a music degree.
- Chelsea Chamber of Commerce Arts Scholarship
- Student must be attending a university or conservatory and pursuing a visual arts degree.
- Chelsea Retired Firefighters Scholarship
- Student must have a GPA between 2.0 and 3.2 and a history of good attendance.

- Awarded by the Chelsea Scholarship Committee.
- Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship
- Student must display qualities of leadership and community service.
- Student must be a member of CHS Key Club.
- Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship - CTE
- Student must be planning a post-secondary path in career and technical education (skilled trades, applied sciences, modern technologies and career prep).
- Kruse/Rossi Scholarship
- Student must demonstrate financial need affecting affording a traditional 4 year college, university, or trade school.
- Student must be in the top 1/4th of graduating class in terms of academic performance.
- Mitchell Family Scholarship
- Student must exemplify the qualities of dedication, citizenship, and hard work.
- Peter Warburton Memorial Scholarship
- Student must demonstrate financial need affecting affording a traditional 4 year college, university, or trade school.
- Paul E. Mann Memorial Scholarship
- Student must plan on pursuing a career in finance and/or business.
- Richard Bareis Emerging Fields Scholarship
- Student must demonstrate financial need affecting affording a traditional 4 year college or university.
- Student must be planning on pursuing a career in industrial, construction, or technical education.
- SRSLY Scholarship
- Student must be a member of the SRSLY Student Leadership Team and have a history of active volunteering.

"Be Like Bruce" Scholarship in Memory of Bruce Szcondronski
Description: The Rotary Club of Chelsea has established the "BE LIKE BRUCE" in memory of Bruce Szcondronski, a well-respected Chelsea Rotarian and dedicated Chelsea community volunteer. Applicants must demonstrate qualities that exemplify what it means to "BE LIKE BRUCE." Be kind. Be a patient mentor. Encourage everyone you cross paths with. Respect every job and everyone that works at them. Work tirelessly to make your community better for everyone who works there, lives there, visits there. Do it all with plenty of smiles, hugs, and a few knowing winks. Enjoy Every Breath. Really!!

- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Prepare a statement on community involvement and volunteer participation.
- Detail two different times you have demonstrated qualities like Bruce, as described above.
Brewster E. and Emily C. Peabody Scholarship
Description: The purpose of the Brewster E. and Emily C. Peabody Fund is to provide educational scholarship support to graduates of Chelsea High School. The first award was made in 1998. Based on academic scholarship and financial need.
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Dependents of employees of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, members of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, the Advisory Committee of the Chelsea Community Foundation as well as dependents of employees of Chelsea High School, dependents of the Chelsea School District and dependents of the scholarship selection committee are ineligible for scholarship consideration.
- Demonstrate academic scholarship and financial need.
-Be planning to attend an accredited post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis, which must be tax-exempt and classified as an educational institution under the Internal Revenue Code.
George L. Palmer Scholarship
Description: Donna A . Palmer established this scholarship to support the graduates of Chelsea High School. The first award was made in 2011. The purpose of the George L. Palmer Scholarship is to provide educational scholarship support to graduates of Chelsea High School pursuing an education in a trade or vocation or an associate degree at non-profit college or university.
Application Requirements:

- Plans to pursue a post-secondary education in a trade or a vocation or an associate degree at a non-profit college or university.
- Demonstrates leadership and character through extra-curricular activities , volunteer involvement and work experience in school and in the community.
- Demonstrates financial need.
- Have two letters of rec

The Lynda Collins Memorial Scholarship
Description: The Lynda Collins Memorial Scholarship is in honor of all the time, effort and love that Lynda Collins gave to the Chelsea community.

- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Write an essay that answers two questions (250-500 words).

Robert L. Daniels Scholarship Program
Description: The Chelsea Community Foundation established this scholarship to support the graduates of Chelsea High School as a tribute to the memory of Robert (Bob) L. Daniels, a founding member of the Foundation. Mr. Daniels was an active member of the Chelsea Community. He served as mayor in 1961, was a member of the Chelsea School Board for five years, and was an advocate and volunteer for the Chelsea District Library, Chelsea First United Methodist Church, and Spaulding for Children. Mr. Daniels was a graduate of Chelsea High School, earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of
Michigan, and went on the become president of Chelsea Lumber Company.
The purpose of the Robert L. Daniels Scholarship is to provide educational scholarship support to graduates of Chelsea High School that plan to pursue a post-secondary education in the building trades or building technology.
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Plan to pursue a post-secondary education in the building trades or building technology and plans to enroll in a full- or part-time degree program at a vocational school or at a college or university that is tax-exempt under 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended.
- Demonstrates leadership and character through extra-curricular activities, volunteer involvement and work experience in school and in the community.
- Dependents of employees of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, members of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, the Advisory Committee of the Chelsea Community Foundation as well as dependents of employees of Chelsea High School, dependents of the Chelsea School District and dependents of the scholarship selection committee are ineligible for scholarship consideration.

Rotary Club of Chelsea Interact Club Scholarship
Description:
Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide.
Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto "Service Above Self."
The members of the Rotary Club of Chelsea are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Becoming a Rotarian connects you with a diverse group who share your drive to give back.

- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Be an active member of the CHS Interact Club.
- A short statement on how the applicant represents the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self".
The Bossory Family Scholarship
Description: This scholarship opportunity is provided by a past CHS graduate that hopes to play a small role in facilitating that same intellectual curiosity among the next generation of Chelsea graduates they were taught.

- Have taken AP Economics or AP Calculus or are a member of the Econ Challenge team.

The Chelsea Area Garden Club Scholarship
Description: CAGC offers $500 scholarships to high school seniors who are interested in agriculture, horticulture, the environment, climate action and/or conservation practices.

- Write a short essay (250-500 words).

O'Quinn Family Edward Jones Scholarship
Description: The O'Quinn Family Edward Jones Scholarship is an opportunity for students who plan to enter an accredited four-year college or university, desire to study business, and who have developed a cursory understanding of the importance of ethical behavior in business.

- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.

Chelsea Area Women's Service Club Community Service Scholarship
Description: This scholarship is based solely on volunteer and community service.
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- List your participation in Service Projects/Activities/Organizations outside of school. Please include dates, organization name, and activities completed. (ie: community, religious, national).
- List your participation in Service Projects/Activities/Organizations at Chelsea High School. Please include dates, organization name, and activities completed.
- List any accomplishments, honors, or awards you have received.
- Include a one page letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, charity director or person familiar with your community service.
- Write an essay.

Describe how volunteering or community service has shaped who you are today, what community service has taught you, and how you have made an impact in the community.
Chelsea Soccer Club Memorial Scholarship
Description: Katie Fox and Lon Stewart were long-time members of the Chelsea Soccer Community. To honor their lives, and dedication to soccer, the Chelsea Soccer Club (CSC) offers college scholarships to former CSC players who have demonstrated similar dedication, commitment, and sportsmanship.
The Chelsea Soccer Club will select winners, with input from Club and school coaches, and based on responses.
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a college-bound Chelsea High School graduate in the current academic year.
- Be a current or former member of the Chelsea Soccer Club.
Dianne Kuhl Economics Scholarship
Description: This scholarship is in memory of Dianne Kuhl who was a postal worker for 30 years serving the Chelsea community.
She grew up on a cattle farm in North Dakota. Over her 74 years she was avid at canning food, gardening, growing flowers, quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, wallpapering, furniture restoration, cooking and cleaning.
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Additional preference is given to students with current or previous 4-H involvement.
- Write a MAX 600-word essay describing activities you've been involved in that reflect her skills and dedication to family, home and self-sufficiency.
The Keith Hoeflinger Memorial Scholarship
Description: Keith Hoeflinger was a Chelsea graduate that participated in both high school and club soccer along with playing for Grand Valley State University. Keith was a team player, a loyal friend and tried his “best”. After graduating from college he took a gap year to work abroad as a camp counselor in Italy, “an incredible experience that he loved”.
This scholarship is offered to CHS graduates that are going to college, vocational school or may be considering a GAP* year.
*(Money can be used toward a gap year as long as your plans include acceptance into a program or employment opportunity. Documentation must be provided for fund distribution.)
There is no GPA requirement.

- Be of quality character / truly enjoys helping others.
- Provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach or community member with their contact info included.
- Write a MAX 600-word essay.

Simply Comedy Scholarship
Description: Do you think you're funny? Are you a class clown? Do you even crack yourself up? Then the Simply Comedy Scholarship is for you.
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- The SCS committee has included an optional video submission that showcases your comedy stylings and creative mind as part of their scholarship application. Please keep the video under 30 seconds and school appropriate - PG13.
Chelsea Area Players Scholarship
Description: If you've spent many long hours working to make the magic of theater and the arts a reality in Chelsea this is a scholarship opportunity for you.
Application Requirements:

- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year.
- Have been involved in Arts, Theater, Music, and Drama.
Hunter Allen Memorial Scholarship
Description: This scholarship is in memory of Hunter Allen known for his smile, good humor, friendliness, and outgoing personality endearing him to all.
A 2020 graduate from Chelsea High School he lettered in baseball, football, and bowling. Camaraderie, support, family and leadership were part of Hunter’s experience as a member of the bowling team. Appreciating that bond, the team was especially important to him.

- Be a member of the Chelsea High School bowling team.

The Delanie Claire Maute Memorial Scholarship
"Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories"
Delanie was just 12 years old when she was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. After a courageous 9 month long battle and just months after her 13th birthday, Delanie lost her valiant fight with this awful cancer. Delanie's brief, yet impactful, life left a lasting impression on many, from her family and educators to her teammates and friends. Description: This scholarship was created to honor Delanie's memory. It is offered to graduating Chelsea High School Seniors who are continuing their education at a college or vocational/trade school.
Application Requirements:
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a graduating Chelsea High School senior in the current academic year (GPA is not a factor).
- Provide an essay (500 word maximum) describing how your faith, family or friends have had a profound effect on your life. Include how you envision these influences will shape your future as you pursue your academic goals.

The portal will open Jan. 8th, with a February 15th deadline to register on the "scholarship portal".
Students that set up their account by the February deadline have until March 15, 2024 to submit their actual scholarship application.

WCC President's, Procassini, and Excellence Scholarships (March 22) - OPENING SOON
Washtenaw Community College offers three types of scholarships to graduating high school seniors:
1. President's Honor Scholarship
2. Procassini Honor Scholarship
3. Excellence Scholarship
President’s and Procassini Honor Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded to six students from each Washtenaw County public high school.
- These scholarships pay full tuition for two consecutive semesters (fall and winter).
- They also provide a $300 bookstore credit each semester the scholarship is awarded.
- If you receive a scholarship, we recommend that you take at least 12 credit hours during both the fall and winter semester.
- To receive the second half of the award for the Winter semester, you must make progress on your program during Fall Semester.
- The President’s and Procassini scholarships have different selection criteria (read more here).
Excellence Scholarship
Each year WCC offers Excellence Scholarships worth $3,000 ($1,500 each semester for fall and winter) to graduates of any high school.
This scholarship rewards excellence in any area.
For example, you may excel in your classes, school or community activities, playing a sport, being an artist, helping your family at overcoming obstacles to achieve your dreams or another area that’s unique to you.
- If you receive a scholarship, you must take at least 12 credit hours at WCC each semester the scholarship is awarded.
- To receive the second half of the award for the Winter Semester, you must make progress on your program during Fall Semester.
- The Excellence scholarship is not renewable.
Process to apply:

- Write a statement of about 250 describing why they want to go to WCC, their college goals, activities and honors, both in and out of school

Michigan Retailers Association Scholarship Program (April 1) - OPENING SOON

Michigan Retailers Foundation, established in 1968, provides college scholarships annually to benefit retailers and their employees and families. The foundation is a nonprofit educational organization established by MRA. Donations are tax deductible. View the list of MRA Foundation donors.

MRA’s college scholarship competition begins in January each year. Applications are due by April 1. To be eligible, the student applicant or a parent or guardian must work at a business that is a member of MRA. High school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and juniors may apply.
Thirteen awards worth $3,500 will be given out in 2024. Financial need is not a consideration.
Eligibility
Those eligible to apply are high school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are:
-Dependent children of owners of MRA member businesses, or of full-time employees of MRA member firms. The parent-employee must have been employed by a MRA member firm for at least one year as of January 1 of the year in which the scholarships are awarded.
-Part-time employees of MRA member businesses who are full-time students. Part-time employees must have been employed by a MRA member firm for at least six months as of January 1 of the year in which the scholarships are awarded.
Scholarship Awards
Thirteen awards worth $3,500 will be given out in 2024. These awards are for one year and are not based on financial need. Applicants may apply each year they are eligible. There is a new competition for these awards each year. Awards can only be won by those studying for an undergraduate degree. Winning a scholarship one year does not necessarily mean that a recipient will win a scholarship the following year. The scholarships will be applied to educational expenses at accredited, nonprofit colleges, universities, or approved educational and professional training institutes in the United States. A student may change colleges and retain the award.
American 1 Credit Union Scholarship (April 5) - OPENING SOON
The American 1 Credit Union is dedicated to being Boldly Generous to our local students and teachers.
Our 2024 scholarship application opens on February 9, 2024, and accepts applications until April 5, 2024. In 2023, we gave back over $20,000 to educational programs across Jackson, Calhoun, Wayne, Lenawee, and Washtenaw counties.*
Scholarship Requirements
- High School seniors living in Jackson, Lenawee, Hillsdale, Calhoun, Washtenaw, Monroe or Wayne counties
- Pursuing college degree or skills based education/certificate program FASFA EFC (expected family contribution) findings submitted with entry
- Essay requirements:
- 800-1,000 words Double spaced, 12-14 point font, single-sided
- How this education will improve the student’s individual life
- How have you been involved in your community through volunteering and/or diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts
- How this education will improve the student’s community
- Articulation of their financial need
- Do not include your name on the essay itself
Immediate family of American 1 Credit Union staff and board members are not eligible for this scholarship.

Lake Michigan Credit Union is excited to share that the Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship is back for it's 35th year!
2024-2025 Essay Topic - "What sort of legacy do you want to leave, and how will you live your life to make that legacy a reality?"

MEA Scholarship - OPEN NOW
- Dependent of MEA member or MEA‑Retired member in good standing
- Graduate of a Michigan public high school or private high school that has an MEA bargaining unit. Diploma must be received in the
application year.
- Will attend or is currently an undergraduate student of a Michigan public community/junior college, four‑year degree‑granting
institution, or vocational training institution that grants a degree, certification, or license. These private institutions ONLY are also
eligible: University of Detroit‑Mercy; Adrian College; Finlandia University; Albion College.
- Note: Children of MEA officers, fund trustees, and MEA staff are not eligible.
(A child of an MEA, MESSA or MEA-FS staff person is eligible if the other parent is an MEA member in good standing.)
- Beginning in 2022-2023, MEA will offer an additional scholarship meant to encourage and support the continued education of members of the
BIPOC (African American/Black, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander or Hispanic/Latinx) community to further the belief
that a diverse society enriches all individuals. Applicants for the BIPOC Scholarship must identify as a member of a defined BIPOC group as
listed above. If you are such a member and would like to be considered for the BIPOC Scholarship.
