Scheduling process

This week, we held a grade-level meeting to discuss requesting courses for next year for current 10th grade students. Transcripts were distributed at the end of the meeting. If your student missed this meeting, please have them see Ms. Kay for their transcript. Current 10th grade course request sheets need to be signed by a parent and are due on Thursday, January 29th to Bulldog Block teachers. Juniors had their meeting last week on January 13th. Transcripts were distributed by their Bulldog Block teachers. If your student missed the meeting, have them check with their Bulldog Block teacher for their transcript. Course requests for current juniors are due on Tuesday, January 27th  to their Bulldog Block teachers. For students who have consortium in the morning and do not have a Bulldog Block at CHS, course request sheets are due on Tuesday January 27th in 4th hour in room 126, where counselors will help them enter their requests online in PowerSchool.

9th grade students will meet next week, on January 27th during Bulldog Block for their class level meeting.

Students will work on their scheduling cards with parents, teachers, and counselors.  Parents will need to sign the request sheet. Schedules are carefully built and balanced during this time, and once students return in the fall, schedules will be finalized and locked. At that point, we are unable to accommodate schedule change requests.

Students may request a schedule change only for legitimate reasons listed in the approved schedule change criteria (see below). All requests must be submitted during the schedule change window at the end of May/beginning of June. Approved schedule change criteria - educational reasons only:

  • Received a C- or below in a previous class in the department

  •  Failed another class with this teacher

  • There is a hole in the schedule

  • Injury/Health issues – documentation required

Next Steps for Seniors

  1. If you haven’t already, make sure to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) - see Blog from the Week of 10/20/25 through 10/24/25 for instructions.

  2. Follow all communications from the colleges you applied to. They will email you at the email address you used on the Common App. They will let you know if you have been accepted, and if you have, they will ask you to set up an account with their university portal; this is where you will receive information about your financial aid package

  3. Information about Financial aid packages is typically released in February or March. Compare your financial aid offer letters.

  4. Once you select a college (the deadline to do so is May 1st, 2026), pay the deposit, and follow their checklist: apply for housing, attend orientation, etc.

  5. In May, Ms Kay will send you instructions for ordering your final official high school transcript. You need to send this transcript (it will go out at the end of June) or the university will prevent you from registering for your classes in the fall.
