Updates from Counseling for the week of 12/16/24 through 12/20/24

Week of 12/16/24 through 12/20/24

FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (2025-26) - Seniors and parents please utilize winter break to get this done!
The 2025-26 FAFSA form is now available. Completing this form is crucial for financial aid eligibility. Don’t leave money on the table - there is a lot of help out there for college costs. Here’s how to get started:

The simplified FAFSA now pulls data directly from the IRS, streamlining the process. You must grant permission to connect to the IRS to be eligible for financial aid. Even if you don’t expect to qualify for federal aid, many colleges require the FAFSA for merit or institutional aid.

Check out this website for FAFSA help, information about Michigan scholarship programs, and much more: https://www.michigan.gov/mistudentaid/students-families

Michigan Achievement Scholarship: 7 out of 10 Michigan students qualify! Simply complete the FAFSA and attend a college in Michigan to be eligible. Learn more here: https://www.michigan.gov/mistudentaid/programs/michigan-achievement-scholarship

Counseling Support
The Peer 2 Peer group participated in the city’s holiday light pole decorating contest. Their pole is located outside Artisan Knitworks on Main Street. You can visit the city’s Facebook page to vote: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1D8ptBs81B/ or you can go admire the post and scan the QR code to vote. Voting ends January 1st. The theme the students chose is “taking care of your mental health during the holidays”. We have also started a Friendship group that meets on Thursdays during Bulldog Block. The purpose of this group is to facilitate connections among students and increase their sense of belonging to our school. If you are interested in your student joining this group, please reach out to Daniela Bickel dbickel@chelseaschools.org As always, we’re here to support students experiencing mental health challenges and assist with academic concerns.

Thank you for staying up to date with these important announcements. Please don’t hesitate to contact the Counseling Office with any questions. Have a wonderful winter break!
