Updates from Counseling for the week of 12/2/24 through 12/6/24

Week of 12/2/24 through 12/6/24

IMPORTANT UPDATES AND DEADLINES

Career Day at CHS
Career Day will take place next week on Tuesday, December 10th. Students have completed the Sign Up process. They will attend three presentations of their choice. 39 presenters will be at CHS on Tuesday and students are excited! Presenters for Career Day were invited based on the survey completed by students back in September.

FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (2025-26)
Seniors and parents, the 2025-26 FAFSA form is now available. Completing this form is crucial for financial aid eligibility. Here’s how to get started:

The simplified FAFSA now pulls data directly from the IRS, streamlining the process. You must grant permission to connect to the IRS to be eligible for financial aid. Even if you don’t expect to qualify for federal aid, many colleges require the FAFSA for merit or institutional aid.

Michigan Achievement Scholarship: 7 out of 10 Michigan students qualify! Simply complete the FAFSA and attend a college in Michigan to be eligible. Learn more here: https://www.michigan.gov/mistudentaid/programs/michigan-achievement-scholarship

Dual Enrollment Classes at WCC (Winter Semester)
The CHS deadline to request dual enrollment classes for the winter semester at Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is Monday, December 9th. These classes may be taken during Trimester 2 or Trimester 3 at CHS, but please note that WCC’s winter semester begins on January 11th, and several enrollment steps must be completed.
No applications for dual enrollment for the 2024-25 school year will be processed after December 9th.
At this point, students should have finalized their schedules for the rest of the school year. The last schedule change window for this year closed on Tuesday, November 26th. Schedule changes will only be made if a student fails a course and needs to retake it.

College Visits

The Savannah School of Art and Design (SCAD) will be at CHS on Monday morning at 8 am. If your student is interested in art schools, encourage them to sign up in Naviance for this visit.

Counseling Support
This week a new DBT skills group started. Next week, a CBT group will start as well. If you would like more information about these groups please click here: https://chs.chelseaschools.org/counseling-office/mental-health-and-wellness We have also started a Friendship group that meets on Thursdays during Bulldog Block. The purpose of this group is to facilitate connections among students and increase their sense of belonging to our school. If you are interested in your student joining this group, please reach out to Daniela Bickel dbickel@chelseaschools.org As always, we’re here to support students experiencing mental health challenges and assist with academic concerns.

Thank you for staying up to date with these important announcements. Please don’t hesitate to contact the Counseling Office with any questions!
