FAFSA: If you have not already done so, submit your FAFSA form ASAP!! Completing this form is crucial for financial aid eligibility. Don’t leave money on the table - there is a lot of help out there for college costs. Even if you don’t expect to qualify for federal aid, many colleges require the FAFSA for merit or institutional aid. Here’s how to get started:
-
Create your FSA ID: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/
create-account/launch -
Start your FAFSA form: https://studentaid.gov/h/
apply-for-aid/fafsa
The simplified FAFSA now pulls data directly from the IRS, streamlining the process. You must grant permission to connect to the IRS to be eligible for financial aid.
-
Compare Financial Aid Packages from different colleges: Once you submit the FAFSA form, the colleges you have been accepted to will prepare a financial aid package for you. Typically colleges will offer your student scholarships based on their GPA. If your Student Aid Index - as determined after filing the FAFSA form - is 30,000 or below, you will qualify for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship: 7 out of 10 Michigan students qualify! Simply complete the FAFSA and attend a college in Michigan to be eligible. Learn more here: https://www.michigan.gov/

Accept the admission offer from the college you selected and pay the housing deposit. College decision day is May 1st. The benefit of making up your mind sooner is to potentially get better housing. If a college deposit is refundable, go ahead and accept the admissions offer. If it is not refundable, wait to see the financial aid package first.
-
Follow the checklist that the college sent your senior - sign up for orientation and college advising to pick out your classes for the fall.
-
Don’t forget to apply for scholarships! There will be a senior class meeting about scholarships on February 4th during the school day.
-
