Updates from Counseling for the week of 2/16/26 through 2/20/26
Week of 2/16/26 through 2/20/26
College Visits at CHS
Next week, on Tuesday, February 24th, Washtenaw Community College will be here at 12:30 pm to continue to help seniors to apply for scholarships. Seniors who are planning to attend WCC in the fall can compete for 6 full rides, including money for books - these 6 scholarships are assigned to CHS students only. On Friday, February 27th, Oakland University will be here at 9:20 am. They will help admitted seniors with next steps, and they will present information to interested juniors and seniors. If your student would like to attend, they need to log into their Naviance account, click on “College” and click on “College Visits”. Times and dates are listed, and students can click the “register” button next to the college of interest. Once a student registers, they will receive a pass on the morning of the visit via the Minga app.

Next Steps for Seniors
-
If you haven’t already, make sure to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) - see Blog from the Week of 10/20/25 through 10/24/25 for instructions.
-
Follow all communications from the colleges you applied to. They will email you at the email address you used on the Common App. They will let you know if you have been accepted, and if you have, they will ask you to set up an account with their university portal; this is where you will receive information about your financial aid package
-
Information about Financial aid packages is typically released in February. Compare your financial aid offer letters.
-
Once you select a college (the deadline to do so is May 1st, 2026), pay the deposit, and follow their checklist: apply for housing, attend orientation, etc.
-
In May, Mrs. Kay will send you instructions for ordering your final official high school transcript. You need to send this transcript (it will go out at the end of June) or the university will prevent you from registering for your classes in the fall.
